The Kenyan beauty Lupita Nyong’O has become a phenomenon in the world of fashion and most recently, the hair world with her Met Gala 2016 skyscraper. Before now, people looked to nappy -sleek curls and twists as a mark of the African culture but that is beginning to change as Africans are getting bolder in the way they wear their hair.

The skyscraper hair definitely has African origin like Lupita rightly pointed out..

This picture (right) must have  dated back to the 14th to 16th century. At that time, African hairstyles could indicate a person’s family background, tribe and social status.

Though Vogue attributed the hair inspiration to Audrey Hepburn, Lupita was quick to point out her African roots.

Joann hair tip for the week:

The healthy appearance of the hair depends almost entirely on the hair cuticle, hence avoid tension and excess heat from constant use of flat irons and blow dryers.

Stay Beautiful!
